Ottawa Employment Trends
The unemployment rate in Ottawa was 4.2% as of April 2023, up 0.2% from the previous month. The unemployment rate stood 5.8% below the peak from July 2020 and is below the long-run average.
There were 9,400 fewer full-time jobs in April 2023 compared to a month earlier. A gain of 6,700 part-time positions led to a decrease of 2,700 total jobs in April.
Full-time employment was still down 13,200 jobs from the peak in January 2023.
The number of full-time jobs in April was up from the previous month in agriculture, utilities, manufacturing, transportation & warehousing, healthcare, and public administration.
Full-time job losses in April occurred in natural resources, construction, trade services, the financial sector, professional & scientific services, business & building services, education, information & cultural services, and accommodation & food services.
