Thunder Bay Employment Trends

The unemployment rate in Thunder Bay was 5.2% as of June 2026, unchanged from the previous month. The unemployment rate stood 6.7% below the peak in June 2020 and is below the long-run average.

There were 1,000 fewer full-time jobs in June 2026 compared to a month earlier. Combined with a gain of 500 part-time positions, this led to a decrease of 500 total jobs in June.

Full-time employment was down 2,200 jobs from the peak in December 2025.
