The unemployment rate in Canada was 6.9% as of May 2025, up 0.2% from the previous month. The unemployment rate stood 6.6% below the peak from June 2020 but remains above the long-run average.

There were 9,100 more full-time jobs in May 2025 compared to a month earlier. Combined with a loss of 14,500 part-time positions, this led to a decrease of 5,400 total jobs in May.

Full-time employment was still down 23,200 jobs from the peak in February 2025 but stood 9,100 jobs above the trough in April 2025.
