National Employment Trends



The unemployment rate in Canada was 6.7% as of January 2025, unchanged from the previous month. The unemployment rate stood 6.8% below the peak in June 2020 and is below the long-run average.
There were 49,100 more full-time jobs in January 2025 compared to a month earlier. A gain of 21,200 part-time positions led to an increase of 70,300 total jobs in January.
Full-time employment has recovered since reaching a bottom in June 2020 and now stands at a record high.
