Prairies Consumer Confidence

According to the Conference Board of Canada, consumer confidence in the Prairies moved up in August 2024.

Concerning job prospects over the next six months, the number of respondents expecting stability remained at elevated levels but ticked lower in August. Those who were pessimism or optimism was little changed while those unsure ticked higher.

Regarding expectations for their household budget over the next six months, the number of respondents expecting stability in their household finances remained elevated but ticked lower compared to the previous month while the number of respondents expecting conditions to deteriorate continued to slide lower.

Sentiment about making major purchases, like a home or a car, remains at historically subdued levels but has improved in recent months. The overall percentage of consumers who thought it was a bad time to make a major purchase continued to drop in August as the number of those who thought it was a good idea moved up.
