Alberta Employment Trends

The unemployment rate in Alberta was 6.9% as of August 2026, unchanged from the previous month. The unemployment rate stood 7.8% below the peak in June 2020 but remains above the long-run average.

There were 6,200 fewer full-time jobs in August 2026 compared to a month earlier. Combined with a gain of 3,100 part-time positions, this led to a decrease of 3,100 total jobs in August.

Full-time employment was down 6,200 jobs from the peak in July 2026.
