Barrie Employment Trends

The unemployment rate in Barrie was 8.4% as of May 2025, up 0.2% from the previous month. The unemployment rate stood 4.9% below the peak from January 2021 but remains above the long-run average.

There were 1,400 more full-time jobs in May 2025 compared to a month earlier. Combined with a loss of 1,500 part-time positions, this led to a decrease of 100 total jobs in May.

Full-time employment was still down 13,800 jobs from the peak in March 2023 but stood 1,400 jobs above the trough in April 2025.
