Prairies Consumer Confidence

According to the Conference Board of Canada, consumer confidence in the Prairies continued to move lower in January 2025.

Concerning job prospects over the next six months, the number of respondents expecting stability moved lower. The number of those who expressed pessimism moved higher, while the number of those who expressed optimism declined.

Regarding expectations for their household budget over the next six months, the number of respondents expecting stability in their household finances remained elevated while the number of respondents expecting conditions to deteriorate moved higher.

Sentiment about making major purchases, like a home or a car, remains at historically subdued levels but has improved over the past several months. The overall percentage of consumers who thought it was a good time to make a major purchase moved sideways in January as the number of those who were unsure was also little changed.
