Changes in population from migration and immigration
Positive net international immigration added to gains from interprovincial migration, resulting in a net increase of 3,729 people to Alberta’s population in the fourth quarter of 2025. This was a decrease of 86.3% from the fourth quarter of 2024.
Changes in population from movement within Canada
Some 12,362 people moved to Alberta from other provinces in the fourth quarter of 2025, down 4.2% from a year earlier. A total of 8,678 people left the province for elsewhere in Canada in the fourth quarter, an increase of 9.6% from the same period in 2024. The result was a net gain of 3,684 people to Alberta’s population in the fourth quarter. This was a decrease of 26.2% from the fourth quarter of 2024.
Changes in population from immigration
Net international immigration added 45 people to Alberta’s population in the fourth quarter of 2025. This was a reversal from the net gain of 22,256 people from the same period in 2024.
