Changes in population from migration and immigration

Negative net international immigration added to losses from interprovincial migration, resulting in a net decrease of 74,562 people to Ontario’s population in the third quarter of 2025. This was a reversal from the net gain of 74,719 people from the third quarter of 2024.

Changes in population from movement within Canada

Some 19,510 people moved to Ontario from other provinces in the third quarter of 2025, up 4.6% from a year earlier. A total of 20,482 people left the province for elsewhere in Canada in the third quarter, a decrease of 10.5% from the same period in 2024. The result was a net loss of 972 people from Ontario’s population in the third quarter. This was a decrease of 77% from the third quarter of 2024.

Changes in population from immigration

Net international immigration subtracted 73,590 people from Ontario’s population in the third quarter of 2025. This was a reversal from the net gain of 78,942 people from the same period in 2024.
