Toronto Employment Trends

 

The unemployment rate in Toronto was 7.9% as of January 2026, down 0.2% from the previous month. The unemployment rate stood 7.2% below the peak from July 2020 but remains above the long-run average.

There were 9,700 more full-time jobs in January 2026 compared to a month earlier. Combined with a loss of 12,000 part-time positions, this led to a decrease of 2,300 total jobs in January.

Full-time employment has recovered since reaching a bottom in July 2025 and now stands at a record high.
