Ontario Employment Trends

The unemployment rate in Ontario was 7.3% as of December 2024, up 0.2% from the previous month. The unemployment rate stood 5.5% below the peak from June 2020 but remains above the long-run average.

There were 4,000 fewer full-time jobs in December 2024 compared to a month earlier. A gain of 6,300 part-time positions led to an increase of 2,300 total jobs in December.

Full-time employment was still down 4,000 jobs from the peak in November 2024.
