Ontario Consumer Confidence

According to the Conference Board of Canada, consumer confidence in Ontario continued to shoot up in October 2024.

Concerning job prospects over the next six months, the number of respondents expressing optimism over the outlook remained weak but moved higher in October, while those expressing pessimism in future conditions ticked down. Most respondents still expect conditions to remain stable.

Regarding expectations for their household budget over the next six months, the number of respondents expecting their household financial situation to improve edged lower compared to the previous month as the number of those expressing consistency moved up.

Sentiment about making major purchases, like a home or a car, remains at historically subdued levels but has improved drastically since the start of the year. The number of respondents indicating they feel confident or still uncertain about whether it is a good or bad time to make a major purchase continued trending higher in October as those who thought it was a bad time continued to fall.
