Changes in population from migration and immigration
Positive international immigration overshadowed losses from interprovincial migration, resulting in a net increase of 40,998 people to Ontario’s population in the third quarter of 2024. This was a decrease of 78.4% from the third quarter of 2023.
Changes in population from movement within Canada
Some 18,664 people moved to Ontario from other provinces in the third quarter of 2024, down 10.3% from a year earlier. A total of 22,915 people left the province for elsewhere in Canada in the third quarter, a decrease of 11.5% from the same period in 2023. The result was a net loss of 4,251 people from Ontario’s population in the third quarter. This was a decrease of 16.5% from the third quarter of 2023.
Changes in population from immigration
International immigration added 45,249 people to Ontario’s population in the third quarter of 2024. This was a decrease of 76.8% from the same period in 2023.
