British Columbia Consumer Confidence

According to the Conference Board of Canada, consumer confidence in British Columbia ticked lower in August 2024.

Concerning job prospects over the next six months, the number of respondents expressing uncertainty over future employment conditions trended sideways while those expecting fewer job opportunities moved higher in August.

Regarding expectations for their household budget over the next six months, the number of respondents who expected an improvement in their finances ticked lower while those who expected conditions to get worse moved sideways. Most respondents still expect their financial situation to remain relatively the same.

Sentiment about making major purchases, like a home or a car, remains at subdued levels. The number of respondents who thought it was a bad time to make a major purchase dropped lower in August while the number of those expressing uncertainty shot up.
