British Columbia Employment Trends

The unemployment rate in British Columbia was 5.5% as of August 2024, up 0.1% from the previous month. The unemployment rate stood 7.3% below the peak from June 2020 and is below the long-run average.

There were 11,200 fewer full-time jobs in August 2024 compared to a month earlier. A gain of 3,100 part-time positions led to a decrease of 8,100 total jobs in August.

Full-time employment was still down 18,000 jobs from the peak in May 2024.
