New Brunswick Employment Trends

 

The unemployment rate in New Brunswick was 6.8% as of February 2026, up 0.2% from the previous month. The unemployment rate stood 6.4% below the peak from June 2020 and is below the long-run average.

There were 400 more full-time jobs in February 2026 compared to a month earlier. Combined with a loss of 400 part-time positions, this led to an unchanged number of total jobs in February.

Full-time employment has recovered since reaching a bottom in September 2025 and now stands at a record high.

Fredericton Employment Trends

The unemployment rate in Fredericton was 6.1% as of February 2026, up 0.3% from the previous month. The unemployment rate stood 4.5% below the peak from June 2020 and is below the long-run average.

There were 1,300 fewer full-time jobs in February 2026 compared to a month earlier. Combined with a gain of 700 part-time positions, this led to a decrease of 600 total jobs in February.

Full-time employment was down 1,800 jobs from the peak in April 2025 but stood 700 jobs above the trough in July 2025.

Moncton Employment Trends

 

The unemployment rate in Moncton was 6.1% as of February 2026, up 0.5% from the previous month. The unemployment rate stood 4.4% below the peak from June 2020 and is below the long-run average.

There were 200 fewer full-time jobs in February 2026 compared to a month earlier. Combined with a loss of 1,000 part-time positions, this led to a decrease of 1,200 total jobs in February.

Full-time employment was down 1,700 jobs from the peak in March 2025 but stood 2,100 jobs above the trough in September 2025.

Saint John, New Brunswick Employment Trends

The unemployment rate in Saint John, New Brunswick was 5.3% as of February 2026, down 0.3% from the previous month. The unemployment rate stood 6.6% below the peak from June 2020 and is below the long-run average.

There were 1,200 more full-time jobs in February 2026 compared to a month earlier. Combined with a gain of 200 part-time positions, this led to an increase of 1,400 total jobs in February.

Full-time employment was down 4,400 jobs from the peak in April 2024 but stood 1,400 jobs above the trough in January 2025.
