Changes in population from migration and immigration

Positive international immigration added to gains from interprovincial migration, resulting in a net increase of 2,572 people to New Brunswick’s population in the fourth quarter of 2024. This was a decrease of 47.2% from the fourth quarter of 2023.

Changes in population from movement within Canada

Some 2,291 people moved to New Brunswick from other provinces in the fourth quarter of 2024, down 15.4% from a year earlier. A total of 2,039 people left the province for elsewhere in Canada in the fourth quarter, a decrease of 14.7% from the same period in 2023. The result was a net gain of 252 people to New Brunswick’s population in the fourth quarter. This was a decrease of 20.8% from the fourth quarter of 2023.

Changes in population from immigration

International immigration added 2,320 people to New Brunswick’s population in the fourth quarter of 2024. This was a decrease of 49.1% from the same period in 2023.
