Changes in population from migration and immigration
Positive international immigration added to gains from interprovincial migration, resulting in a net increase of 5,898 people to New Brunswick’s population in the second quarter of 2024. This was a decrease of 21.3% from the second quarter of 2023.
Changes in population from movement within Canada
Some 4,897 people moved to New Brunswick from other provinces in the second quarter of 2024, down 7.8% from a year earlier. A total of 4,196 people left the province for elsewhere in Canada in the second quarter, an increase of 23.5% from the same period in 2023. The result was a net gain of 701 people to New Brunswick’s population in the second quarter. This was a decrease of 63.4% from the second quarter of 2023.

International immigration added 5,197 people to New Brunswick’s population in the second quarter of 2024. This was a decrease of 6.8% from the same period in 2023.
