Changes in population from migration and immigration

Positive net international immigration was overshadowed by losses from interprovincial migration, resulting in a net decrease of 726 people to New Brunswick’s population in the third quarter of 2025. This was a reversal from the net gain of 5,841 people from the third quarter of 2024.

Changes in population from movement within Canada

Some 3,134 people moved to New Brunswick from other provinces in the third quarter of 2025, down 2% from a year earlier. A total of 4,055 people left the province for elsewhere in Canada in the third quarter, a decrease of 6.8% from the same period in 2024. The result was a net loss of 921 people from New Brunswick’s population in the third quarter. This was a decrease of 20% from the third quarter of 2024.

Changes in population from immigration

Net international immigration added 195 people to New Brunswick’s population in the third quarter of 2025. This was a decrease of 97.2% from the same period in 2024.
