Changes in population from migration and immigration

Positive international immigration added to gains from interprovincial migration, resulting in a net increase of 816 people to Prince Edward Island’s population in the first quarter of 2025. This was a decrease of 24.5% from the first quarter of 2024.

Changes in population from movement within Canada

Some 1,327 people moved to Prince Edward Island from other provinces in the first quarter of 2025, up 10.3% from a year earlier. A total of 829 people left the province for elsewhere in Canada in the first quarter, a decrease of 26.9% from the same period in 2024. The result was a net gain of 498 people to Prince Edward Island’s population in the first quarter. This was an increase of 621.7% from the first quarter of 2024.

Changes in population from immigration

International immigration added 318 people to Prince Edward Island’s population in the first quarter of 2025. This was a decrease of 68.6% from the same period in 2024.
