Negative net international immigration added to losses from interprovincial migration, resulting in a net decrease of 220 people to Prince Edward Island’s population in the first quarter of 2026. This was a reversal from the net gain of 660 people in the first quarter of 2025.
Changes in population from movement within Canada
Some 1,216 people moved to Prince Edward Island from other provinces in the first quarter of 2026, down 12.5% from a year earlier. A total of 1,255 people left the province for elsewhere in Canada in the first quarter, an increase of 47.3% from the same period in 2025. The result was a net loss of 39 people from Prince Edward Island’s population in the first quarter. This was a reversal from the net gain of 537 people from the first quarter of 2025.

Net international immigration subtracted 181 people from Prince Edward Island’s population in the first quarter of 2026. This was a reversal from the net gain of 123 people from the same period in 2025.
