Prairies Consumer Confidence

According to the Conference Board of Canada, consumer confidence in the Prairies moved higher in September 2024.

Concerning job prospects over the next six months, the number of respondents expecting stability remained at elevated levels but moved lower in September. Those who expressed pessimism or optimism was little changed while those unsure ticked higher.

Regarding expectations for their household budget over the next six months, the number of respondents expecting stability in their household finances remained elevated but ticked lower compared to the previous month while the number of respondents expecting conditions to deteriorate continued to slide lower. Those expecting improvement in conditions rose.

Sentiment about making major purchases, like a home or a car, remains at historically subdued levels but has improved in recent months. The overall percentage of consumers who thought it was a bad time to make a major purchase ticked higher in September as the number of those who thought it was a good idea moved sideways.
