Changes in population from migration and immigration

Positive international immigration overshadowed losses from interprovincial migration, resulting in a net increase of 6,178 people to Saskatchewan’s population in the second quarter of 2024. This was a decrease of 19.2% from the second quarter of 2023.

Changes in population from movement within Canada

Some 5,694 people moved to Saskatchewan from other provinces in the second quarter of 2024, down 0.6% from a year earlier. A total of 7,236 people left the province for elsewhere in Canada in the second quarter, a decrease of 6.8% from the same period in 2023. The result was a net loss of 1,542 people from Saskatchewan’s population in the second quarter. This was a decrease of 24.2% from the second quarter of 2023.

Changes in population from immigration

International immigration added 7,720 people to Saskatchewan’s population in the second quarter of 2024. This was a decrease of 20.3% from the same period in 2023.
