Changes in population from migration and immigration
Positive international immigration added to gains from interprovincial migration, resulting in a net increase of 898 people to Newfoundland and Labrador’s population in the first quarter of 2025. This was a decrease of 61.2% from the first quarter of 2024.
Changes in population from movement within Canada
Some 1,759 people moved to Newfoundland and Labrador from other provinces in the first quarter of 2025, down 17.1% from a year earlier. A total of 1,681 people left the province for elsewhere in Canada in the first quarter, a decrease of 10.8% from the same period in 2024. The result was a net gain of 78 people to Newfoundland and Labrador’s population in the first quarter. This was a decrease of 67.2% from the first quarter of 2024.
Changes in population from immigration
International immigration added 820 people to Newfoundland and Labrador’s population in the first quarter of 2025. This was a decrease of 60.5% from the same period in 2024.
