Changes in population from migration and immigration
Positive net international immigration overshadowed losses from interprovincial migration, resulting in a net increase of 453 people to Newfoundland and Labrador’s population in the third quarter of 2025. This was a decrease of 78.4% from the third quarter of 2024.
Changes in population from movement within Canada
Some 1,293 people moved to Newfoundland and Labrador from other provinces in the third quarter of 2025, down 12.9% from a year earlier. A total of 1,658 people left the province for elsewhere in Canada in the third quarter, a decrease of 11.4% from the same period in 2024. The result was a net loss of 365 people from Newfoundland and Labrador’s population in the third quarter. This was a decrease of 5.7% from the third quarter of 2024.
Changes in population from immigration
Net international immigration added 818 people to Newfoundland and Labrador’s population in the third quarter of 2025. This was a decrease of 67.1% from the same period in 2024.
