British Columbia Consumer Confidence

According to the Conference Board of Canada, consumer confidence in British Columbia ticked slightly higher in September 2024.

Concerning job prospects over the next six months, the number of respondents expressing optimism over future employment conditions trended to the lowest levels in survey history while those expecting fewer job opportunities moved higher in September. Most respondents still expect conditions to remain stable.

Regarding expectations for their household budget over the next six months, the number of respondents who expected an improvement in their finances moved sideways while those who expected conditions to get worse fell. Most respondents still expect their financial situation to remain relatively the same.

Sentiment about making major purchases, like a home or a car, remains at subdued levels but has improved greatly in recent months. The number of respondents who thought it was a bad time to make a major purchase dropped lower in September while the number of those expressing uncertainty continued to shoot up.
